Part A Projects (Activities & Forums)
SCWI encourages and supports two areas of emphasis for which project funding is provided: Part A Projects which include both Activities and Forums and Part B Projects which have an emphasis on Dual Credit possibilities.
Activities are organized events which allow, depending on the objectives, students / teachers / college staff or parents, a variety of opportunities.
Activities focus on:
- 1. Curriculum alignment and pathways to college
- 2. Pre-service teacher preparation, teacher staff development and teacher internships
- 3. Awareness and promotion of college programs beyond college outreach programs currently in place
Regional / Local Forums help to build bridges of understanding and communication across the two sectors.
Regional forums usually have a one-day workshop format. Local forums support communication between community colleges and their neighbouring district school boards and address issues of local concern. A Regional Forum would ideally involve at least two community colleges and three or more district school boards. Appropriate community or business /industry partners could also be included.
Regional/Local forums focus on:
- 1. Helping to build bridges of understanding and communication across the two sectors
- 2. Supporting communication between colleges or applied arts and technology and their neighbouring district school boards
- 3. Addressing issues of regional and/or local concern
- 4. Supporting Activities and Dual Credit Programs
Part B Projects (Dual Credit / Triple Play)
Part B Projects are intended to assist a broad range of secondary students in the completion of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and successful transition to college and apprenticeship programs. The students who may benefit from B Projects include disengaged and underachieving students with the potential to succeed as well as high achieving students who already have a chosen postsecondary destination in mind as they work toward an OSSD. Part B Projects will offer dual credit courses, dual programs and/or courses for which advanced standing may be granted.
Dual Credits focus on:
- 1. Assisting secondary students in the completion of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- 2. Successful transitioning to college and apprenticeship programs
- 3. Students facing the biggest challenges; disengagement, underachieving
- 4. Under-represented groups; aboriginal, ELL, FSL, FGS, Crown Wards, Special Education, students who have been out of school
